“I was 26 when I created the wrap dress. Its success allowed me to become the woman I wanted to be.” — Diane Von Furstenberg
Two years after arriving in the United States with a suitcase full of jersey dresses, Diane Von Furstenberg debuted the wrap dress, revolutionized women’s fashion, became a fixture at Studio 54 and ultimately earned the moniker ‘fashion icon’ before marrying billionaire Barry Diller.
Fittingly, some forty years later, DVF 40: Journey of a Dress, an exhibition celebrating the little wrap dress that started it all, arrived in Los Angeles with much deserved fanfare. Staged at the Wilshire May Company building on Wilshire Boulevard adjacent to LACMA, the exhibit took guests on a stroll down memory lane with Von Furstenburg’s creations as the road map.
Twas the stuff of fashion legend and more than worthy of the fashion visionary it celebrated. .
